Reginald Stadlbauer

CEO / co-founder

reggie@froglogic.com

Reginald Stadlbauer was born in Graz, Austria where he attended high school and then the Technical University of Graz.

An interest in computers and programming began when Reginald started with BASIC programming, before moving on to Pascal on an ATARI ST where he became interested in GUI programming. He started working with C++ and Qt® after he joined the KDE team in the summer of 1997 – he worked on KWord, and developed the initial version of KPresenter.

Reginald started working for Trolltech® AS as a software engineer, in the summer of 1999. During his four years at Trolltech, Reginald worked on several major projects, spending most of his time doing development, but also doing release management and training and mentoring other developers. He was a software architect and the lead developer for the Qt Designer GUI builder, he was one of the architects of Trolltech’s Qt/Desktop product, he led the development of Qt’s complex widgets, and he was also part of the architecture and implementation team for QSA – Qt Script for Applications.

Reginald co-founded froglogic in 2003.

Harri Porten

CEO / co-founder

porten@froglogic.com

Harri Porten is of German and Finnish descent and grew up in Germany and Thailand. After high school he studied at the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg in Germany, and at the University of Waterloo in Canada; he graduated with a diploma in Mechanical Engineering.

Harri started programming on an Apple II, and soon turned his hobby into a source of income, providing maintenance and consultancy services to local businesses. After discovering Linux, Harri joined the KDE project, where he eventually implemented a JavaScript interpreter – this interpreter was adopted for use in KDE’s web browser Konqueror, and is now also used by Apple in its Safari browser, and served as the starting point for WebKit’s JavaScript interpreter.

Harri began working as a software engineer at Trolltech AS in Oslo in the summer of 2000. During the next three years he oversaw the portability of the Qt GUI toolkit to a wide variety of different compilers and operating systems, including HP-UX and AIX. In addition, he implemented Qt’s original SVG support, and was involved in Trolltech’s quality assurance process. Harri was also a member of the Qt Script for Applications team.

Harri co-founded froglogic in 2003.

Rainer Schmid

Senior Software Engineer

Rainer Schmid was born and grew up in Germany. After high school he studied computer science and mathematics at the University of Saarbrücken, Germany, and graduated with a diploma in computer science.

He began programming as a hobby in the 1980s, starting with BASIC on a Commodore 64. Later, Rainer moved on to an Atari ST where he learned to program in C. After graduating, Rainer worked for a short time as a C++ programmer for a German company in Kaiserslautern.

In May 2000, Rainer started working for Trolltech AS as a software engineer. During almost four years at Trolltech, Rainer mainly worked on non-GUI classes, including those providing networking and XML support. Towards the end of his time at Trolltech, Rainer was leading Trolltech’s Qt Solutions group that creates add-ons for the Qt library. Rainer left Trolltech at the end of 2003 and worked as a freelance consultant and programmer on Qt-based software projects. During this time he also did research on various aspects of human-computer interaction.

Rainer joined froglogic in spring 2005.

Frerich Raabe

Software Engineer

Frerich Raabe was born in Germany where he attended a technical school, and later went on to study computer science.

He started programming in his teens, initially with GW-BASIC and Turbo Pascal, later moving on to Borland Pascal and x86 assembler. In 1999 he joined the KDE project and started developing software using C++ and Qt. His work at KDE included many additions to KDE’s core libraries, the KNewsTicker RSS aggregator, major refactorings to KDE’s help center, and the Kontact PIM suite’s XMLRPC backend.

During various part-time and freelancing jobs, Frerich taught himself skills in a variety of web-related technologies, including XML, XSLT, XPath, and DocBook XML, as well as popular scripting languages, including Python and PHP.

Frerich joined froglogic in summer 2005.

Koos Vriezen

Software Engineer

Koos Vriezen was born in Arnhem, Netherlands and studied in Nijmegen. During his studies of math and physics he became more and more interested in software development, and fell in love with Linux and C++ in the early 1990s.

After working as a math and physics teacher for a few years, Koos switched to teaching official Microsoft courses for Visual Basic and introductory courses in C and C++. Later on he joined Polderland, a Dutch company that specializes in language and speech software, where he took part in various C++ projects, including development for the Dutch version of Microsoft’s Office’s grammar checking tool.

Later still, Koos worked for an industrial automation company, Van Gelder Engineering. Around this time he joined the KDE team, initially doing KHTML bugfixes, and then moving on to specialize in KHTML KPart usage, as well as improving the Java applet support and adding the KMPlayer video plugin.

Koos joined froglogic in spring 2006.

Rob Buis

Software Developer

Rob Buis was born in the Netherlands and studied in Amsterdam. He first became interested in programming after seeing Pacman on a Nintendo in the early 1980s. His first computer was a Commodore 128, and this was followed by an Amiga where he started programming in BASIC and C.

During his studies Rob spent his spare time on gaming and reverse engineering game file formats. Although he first encountered Linux in 1996, it was so basic that he didn’t take to it, instead doing development using Visual Studio and MFC, as well as general Unix programming on SunOS/Solaris machines.

Rob tried Linux again around 2000, and thanks to the Enlightenment and KDE desktops, he found the experience much nicer than in the 1990s. In 2001 he joined the KDE project, mainly focusing on vector graphics rendering and editing, working on KOffice and KSvg. In 2006 he joined the Webkit open source project as a reviewer and committer.

Rob joined froglogic in spring 2007.

Roberto Maisl

Software Developer

Roberto joined froglogic in autumn 2006.

Andreas Pakulat

Software Developer

Andreas Pakulat was born in the former German Democratic Republic. His first exposure to computers was playing games on his father’s ZX Spectrum, and then a Robotron in 1994. He didn’t begin programming until his final years at school, where Pascal was taught in an IT course.

During his studies in Rostock, Andreas used his spare time to learn Java and a little C++ on Windows, although the University courses he attended often featured Solaris and other Unix variants. He liked the way these Unix operating systems worked, and this led him to try Linux in early 2002, which he liked so much that he stayed with it.

Andreas started programming for the KDE project using C++ and the KDE3 (Qt 3-based) libraries. And when Qt 4 came along, Andreas got involved with PyQt, helping to port the examples for the first PyQt4 release. He formally joined the KDE project in the spring of 2006 and began working on the KDevelop3’s qmake support, and later worked in other areas including other areas, including version control, project management, and Python support.

Andreas joined froglogic in January 2008.

Mark Summerfield

Technical Writer

Mark Summerfield was born in London, England. His first involvement with computers was at Technical College where he was given access to a mini-computer with magnetic tape storage and teletype and papertape input. He learned BASIC at College, and Forth, Pascal, and C on various home computers over the years. He is a computer science graduate.

After graduating, Mark spent many years working in the software industry, primarily as a programmer. He also spent almost three years as Trolltech® AS documentation manager during which he founded and edited Trolltech® AS technical journal, Qt Quarterly.

Mark is the co-author of C++ GUI Programming with Qt 4 (ISBN 0132354160), and author of Rapid GUI Programming with Python and Qt (ISBN 0132354187), and most recently of Programming in Python 3.
